Caernarfon
Caernarfon is a walled medieval royal town on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. With good traffic it is 20 mins drive from Chateau Rhianfa and 25 mins drive from the Snowdon area, and has a range of accommodation options. In the 13th century, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, ruler of the post-Roman Kingdom of Gwynedd, refused to pay homage to Edward I of England, prompting the English conquest of Gwynedd. This was followed by the construction of Caernarfon Castle, one of the largest and most imposing fortifications built by the English in Wales (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caernarfon), This town has oodles of character, including a Thai restaurant complete with artificial beach and boats, inside an old warehouse.
